“LIE TO ME” – third season premiere of FOX show begins Monday, October 4 at 9 PM

This episode entitled “In The Red” is very exciting. Dr. Lightman (Tim Roth) starts off going to his bank to try to straighten out something with his account. He becomes embroiled with problems concerning the bank which carry on throughout the entire show. He may be a quirky, jerky – as in not sitting still and bouncing around most of the time – kind of guy, but he’s very smart and extremely observant. He reads facial expressions extremely well; in fact, that’s his job!

His associates are also very smart, but to get him to talk to them, they have to chase him down the hall while he gives instructions. He doesn’t waste time sitting around being sociable. He gets the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible. In this show he helps two different people concerned with the same case. It all concerns what happens in the bank and how Dr. Lightman handles matters. We should all have a Dr. Lightman upon whom we could rely. Besides, he’s cute!

So tune in next Monday to FOX at 9 PM and see for yourself. I think you’ll like it.

Family Poop Problems

Here are my two little girls, Teri and Cindy, on their way to elementary school and kindergarten. They look so sweet and happy, but before this was taken, it was probably an altogether different story. Cindy always had a special way to go poop. She would take a big basketball-sized ball into the bathroom with her and bounce it against the wall in front of her while she was sitting on the toilet – first with the left hand, and then with the right hand. Or maybe she used both hands like a basketball player making free throws, but I don’t think so. I think there was a floor bounce after it hit the wall. Whatever, it became very annoying when someone else needed to use the bathroom since we had only one. We would be outside the bathroom and have to listen to the ball banging and banging against the wall. This would go on for what seemed like hours.

Teri was older and wanted to get all fixed up before school, but Cindy was always in there, bouncing and bouncing. Cindy told me the other day she remembers Teri screaming, “Mom, make Cindy get out of the bathroom – she’s been in there for hours!” There didn’t seem to be anything to do about it at the time. Cindy never went poop away from home. She still doesn’t like to – maybe at my home she feels comfortable but usually not anyplace else. She would hold it for hours until it almost became impacted and would require much ball bouncing when she returned home. I’m somewhat the same way, especially on planes. That’s the absolute worst! But I don’t need to bounce a ball to get the job done. When Cindy was really young and finally we could hear the bouncing had stopped, we’d hear this little voice come wafting out of the bathroom, “Come wipe me.” We all breathed a sigh of relief and could get on with our lives until another day dawned. Not everyone likes to talk about poop, but I’m not one of them!

“THE GOOD GUYS” - on FOX, Friday, October 1 at 9 PM

“The Good Guys” this Friday night is crazy as ever! The way it’s filmed is wild. It jumps from the present to maybe 2 minutes previous and then back again. It tells so much in a short amount of time, but you have to watch every minute. Dan Stark (Bradley Whitford) is the old-time cop who relies on his past experiences rather than do much actual work. But when he’s called upon, he always rises to the occasion. He drinks a lot which doesn’t help. He talks about his old partner all the time saying “Frank and me did blah, blah, blah.”

Jack Bailey (Colin Hanks) is the young, serious cop who is forced to be Dan’s partner. He is very naïve and earnest which makes it very amusing watching them try to do something together. Lieutenant Ana Ruiz (Diana Riva) and ADA Liz Traynor (Jenny Wade) round out the crew. Liz is a former girlfriend of Jack’s; Jack doesn’t agree with the “former” part. Lieutenant Ruiz is the leader of the bunch who once had a “thing” with Dan but doesn’t like to ever mention it.

Dan is so crazy and seems so stupid sometimes, but he always comes through with Jack. It’s fun to watch them get into huge messes and then get out, sometimes without even knowing how bad things really were.

So watch ‘The Good Guys” Friday night. It’s not some drama that takes a lot of thought. It’s a comedy that makes you laugh and feel good. My kind of show!

LONE STAR – new FOX show

My daughter, Teri, was on my case today because I didn’t watch this show last Monday. I didn’t watch it because I had already seen it and reviewed it on August 28 on my blog. I would have watched it again, but I wanted to see Bristol on “Dancing with the Stars” to see if she’d lost her baby weight – she hasn’t. But I just finished watching “Lone Star” tonight and liked it as much as the last time.

David Keith plays Bobby’s father. Bobby is played by newcomer James Wolk. They are both very good con men with Bobby wanting to go straight. That’s not possible as long as daddy is alive. Bobby has a very complicated love life with one wife in Huston and one, just about to be his wife, in Midland. This obviously takes place in Texas where everything crazy always happens. Things get all mixed up when his father-in-law in Huston played by Jon Voight gets involved with him. Jon is not a nice man and neither is his own dad. It’s as if everyone around Bobby is after him in some way and not for the good. But Bobby is so sweet and cute you just root for him.

I hope this show stays on. It will if we all tune in.

HUMAN TARGET, premiering Friday, Oct. 1 at 8 PM on FOX

I just watched this episode and think it’s better than ever. There’s a lot of shooting, fighting and crazy stunt work that keeps you interested throughout the show. Chance (Mark Valley) is just as good looking as in the first season, and does the physical stuff like fighting. Winston (Chi McBride) doesn’t do as much of that as he’s a little heavier, so he’s the manager and the brains . . . although they all have brains. Guerrero (Jackie Earle Haley) is the sly, crafty one and very funny. Last year when I reviewed the show, I mentioned him and said I hoped they’d use him more because he’s so amusing. Well, in this new episode he is on quite a bit. Maybe someone heard me!

After last year’s finale when Winston was captured and tortured, this year starts out with Chance and Guerrero rescuing him. But Chance decides to give up the protection business because it seems to bring harm to those around him, and there are many people who want to kill him. So he goes to an Ashram in Nepal and meditates for a long time. My daughter, Teri, went to an Ashram, but I think it was a different one. But a beautiful woman finds him there who needs help, so you know how that turns out. He helps her and is back in the business.

This is a very entertaining show and I hope everyone watches it and feels as I do.

My little family

I decided it was time to write about my birds again. This picture doesn’t show many birds, but I wanted to take it to show the bird on the floor. He had been pecking at a seed that was apparently too big for him, and he just kept pecking and pecking! I couldn’t believe he would keep on as long as he did.

I have many different kinds of birds coming now and quite a few of them. There are some sparrows – different kinds – and finches. The sparrows usually chase the finches out of the feeder and they land on the floor. There they eat the seed that’s scattered there by the sparrows who kick it out as they eat. Sparrows are extremely messy. I also have a bluejay that appears periodically. I always go screaming to the door and scare him away. He’s really stupid as he makes a loud screech every time he comes which notifies me of his presence. Sometimes I’ll have 6 or 7 birds eating out of the feeder at the same time until someone kicks one out. When they can’t get in the feeder, they run around on the floor and spend a lot of time behind Frances, the flamingo. I always wonder what they’re doing back there. They probably wonder what I’m doing in here.

Charley, the squirrel, still comes every day. I watch him creeping across the deck floor, step by step as he looks for me inside. I move slowly to the door, and when the screen actually opens, he runs out and usually waits by my deck door out to the street. Then I try my new tactic. I throw an empty plastic, gallon milk jug at the door which makes a loud bang! He runs but always comes back for more. I tried putting a plastic cover on the feeder but he knocked it off! While the cover was on, a bird came to eat and he flew wildly around my deck because he couldn’t get down to the feeder. He finally stopped and hopped up to my screen door and looked in at me! I felt terrible and went right out and took the cover off and never tried it again.

My deck is a mess and will always be that way. The birds poop all over it and throw the bird seed around on it. Charley poops on my ledge in a certain place – at least I think that’s who’s doing it. It’s always in the same place. He acts as if that part of my ledge is his own personal toilet. I really don’t like Charley that much.

“GLEE” will premiere Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 8 PM on FOX for its second season

I just watched this episode and it was fantastic! It has new characters who aren’t welcomed at first, but later on things get better for them. The dialogue is so sharp and funny and is delivered so quickly that you have to watch and listen every minute so you won’t miss anything. Jane Lynch is her same, wily self and Mr. Sylvester tries to keep one step ahead of her . . . or maybe not more than 10 steps behind her.

There is some great singing as usual. I seem to cry every time I watch “GLEE” so I just plan on it! Lea Michele has such a beautiful voice and sings familiar songs that just get me. I don’t know how the writing staff comes up with a new one every week. How they can have all that quirky, snarky dialogue each episode and not just go dry after a while. Ryan Murphy and Brad Falchuk must be extremely talented.

I don’t know what else I can say about “GLEE” except that it’s better than ever which makes it darn good! So watch it!

No more Volvo

Last week I took my Volvo in for an oil change and left minus $460. They found a few other things wrong with it and one big thing. I don’t understand all of it, except for the fact it wasn’t too safe to be driving it anymore. I decided not to fix the big thing, so a few days later I went to the car store and bought a used Ford Focus. I’ve never been to a big dealer’s store to purchase a car, but I thought Ford was a good place to start. So I went to Courtesy Ford hoping they would be courteous to a new buyer.

I made an appointment with a Jason B. over the phone but I got there pretty early. He was with another client, so Jeff took care of me. He was very nice – of course he was. He was trying to sell me a car! I looked at a couple used cars and found one that looked good. But what do I know about buying a car? Absolutely nothing!! So then we sat down to figure out what I could afford. I told him I could afford actually nothing, but we talked a while and I finally got to the point where I thought I could afford the car payment with so much down and financing the rest. So we talked a while and all of a sudden this other guy appears and we’re introduced. His name was Uriah! So I said “Like in David Copperfield – Uriah Heep?” Uriah Heep was not a nice man, and I was a little leery about this one. He took me away from my salesman and down a long hallway to a room where he hit numbers in a combination lock on the door. I felt like I was going into a CIA interrogation room, never to be seen again! But he also was very nice to me, so then we got down to the real business. He had me sign a stack of about 500 papers. I think I signed away my house, my clothes, my furniture, my art work, and possibly both of my daughters before we were done. He finally let me out and I found my way back to where my salesman was, but he was already with another client and I was told another salesman would help me. He was actually the one with whom I had made the appointment – Jason - but was busy when I arrived. So I met Jason who then drifted away to get keys for the car I would drive home as my new purchase had to be detailed or whatever it is they do to a car when someone like me buys one. Jason had to follow me home to get the check as I had left my checkbook home, not thinking I would ever be buying a car that soon.

I started over to ask the Jason a question, and he was standing on a sort of low platform so I had to look way up to see his face as he was 6 feet 8 and I’m 5 foot 3. So I was looking way up and didn’t see the big step up to the platform and hit it with my shins and went SPLAT! I fell face down and just lay there for a couple of seconds and then a woman helped me up. I felt ok so I went out the door to the car to go home. I told Jason not to follow me as I don’t take the freeways. So when I got home he was waiting for me. I assume he’d been there about an hour, but I never worried as I knew he had to have the check even if I drove around Mt. Hood to get home . . . which I did consider. I gave him my check and sent him on his way. I asked him if he saw me when I fell and he said he did and that it didn’t look good. I agreed. I had a few bruises and other hurts from the fall. I still do.

So a couple of days ago, Jason brought me my new car which is the picture above. My little monkey is sitting on it and getting all excited – he’s just about ready to clash his cymbals together. Today I took it out to the dealer for the DEQ check-up and now I feel like it’s really mine . . . and theirs, I guess, since I’m making payments. But I’ll call it mine. My car-buying experience wasn’t too bad, thanks to the people at Courtesy Ford. Today I saw Jason there, and he found my Volvo which was still there and took off the cover for the steering wheel. My brother gave me the cover for my other car and I really liked it – it has frogs on it. He put it on my new car which I think was so cool of him. I hope he sells a new car today!

TERRIERS – new FX show – premiered Wednesday, September 8, at 10PM

I watched this show the other night and got a big kick out of it. It’s created by Shawn Ryan who did “The Shield” which was very successful and entertaining, so I think this should be the same. It’s about two guys who play private detectives without a license. A license would be too much to carry – just unnecessary baggage. So they have to be careful how they go about things and always try to avoid danger and responsibility.

Hank (Donald Logue) used to be a cop, and Britt (Michael Raymond-James) used to be a thief, so they’re a good combination and great friends. Hank still has friends on the force who give them a little help and advice which they usually don’t take. They seem to come up with their own cases which turn into something bigger than they’re really equipped to handle. But they bumble along and seem to come out on top. Hank has an ex-wife he still likes and Britt has a girlfriend who’d like a baby, but he suggests a dog. They are scruffy guys, especially Hank who is really scruffy! But I seem to like scruffy guys, so this show appeals to me. They are funny which I also like.

FX has some great shows such as “Damages” and recently “Rescue Me” which was one of my favorite all-time shows. I hope “Terriers” lasts and it should if we all watch it. I will.

RUNNING WILDE – new Fox show premiering Tuesday, September 21, at 9:30 – 10 PM

This is a show created by the team that produced “Arrested Development” which in my opinion was one of the funniest shows I’ve ever seen. Why they took it off I’ll never know. They didn’t ask my opinion which apparently means they don’t care what I think which is their loss. Oh, well . . . guess I’ll get on with this one.

“Running Wilde” stars Will Arnett as Steven Wilde whose daddy owns Wilde Oil which means Steven has never worked a day in his life. He is immature, narcissistic, and full of himself and not a very likable guy. He does crazy, stupid things like driving around with a tiny horse in the back seat of his car. He is presenting himself with a Humanitarian award but is afraid no one will show up as he’s not a humanitarian.

He’s still longing for an old girlfriend, Emmy, who is now living in Peru in the rain forest and trying to get Wilde Oil out before they ruin the entire forest. She was the daughter of a former Wilde housekeeper whom Steve has always loved. She has a daughter named Puddle who narrates the story but has stopped speaking, mainly because she doesn’t want to live in the forest anymore. Emmy shows up at the ceremony with Puddle who starts talking finally.

The whole story becomes crazy and mixed up – or maybe it is I who becomes crazy and mixed up. I like the actors, especially will Arnett. I hope it does well, and with the creators and Will Arnett working on it, it should. I think you should watch it.
