I'm A Patsy - Gotta Problem With That?

The Foxes of Washington DC

When my daughter, Teri, moved to Wash. DC to pursue something, a career probably, she met the girls in the photo and eventually they all lived  together on Foxhall Road in DC. And that is how they earned the name "The Foxes." They have remained good friends and get together every October and do fun things like . . . I can't remember what fun things were back then, but I guess they do them and renew old memories. This year they all met at Teri's in Brooklyn and did fun things I hope. Teri sent me this picture of all of them - Teri is the one in red looking gorgeous - that is a mother speaking you realize. When I got the picture I looked at it and and was shocked and dismayed. They were standing in a subway station! Teri knows how I feel about subways. They are dirty, messy, lots of people all crowded together, and it's hard to know which train to get on and which way they are going. I tell her over and over again not to ride the subway and the only answer she can come up with is that's the only way to get to work.  That's a pretty slim excuse if you ask me! I think of her as I lay in my warm bed on a cold morning getting on the subway.

Anyway . . . I loved the picture and all the girls are still looking beautiful like they did years ago. Now if I can just get them to stay away from subways.

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas!

I know it's not yet Thanksgiving, but you wouldn't know it with all the ads and the stores opening at 4am and closing at 3:30am the next day - that just leaves a half hour to go to the bathroom before hitting the racks again. Before too many years, it will be black Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, etc. all year long.  When I was a child, I remember getting so excited writing my letter to Santa Claus and then shopping downtown to see all the toys. That all stopped when I entered college. But that was a long time ago and nothing is the same anymore. My husband and I used to take our girls to see the Cinnamon Bear every Christmas and were never worried if he were feeling them a little too much as they cuddled on his lap. One of my friends mentioned that recently, but we never thought about those things in those days - at least not out loud. My, how things have changed.

I found this picture of Cindy taken a few years ago, obviously. I know she was excited for Christmas to arrive so she could unwrap the presents. She was wearing her warm outfit for the winter weather. I would give anything to have that outfit to wear now as our weather has become extremely cold. I don't know what her pose was, but I love it! Teri was probably off in her room getting ready for her photo.

Cindy is coming for Thanksgiving, and I'm going to cook a turkey breast. I asked the butcher if I could get a small one and he said I could, but I don't know if butchers are known for their reliability. But if he checked my breasts out, he would have known why I wanted a small breast. But if that doesn't work out, I'll get a chicken. I'm not making a pie and Cindy doesn't care as she'll eat anything. I made cookies and they turned out shitty. I think I need to get a flour sifter as my last two broke. Also I stopped using margarine and use oil instead and I think it's not working out. So my wonderful cookies are no longer. Possibly my cooking days are numbered. But we'll have a good time anyway. She has to go back the next day for work, so it's a short visit.

I won't be seeing Teri this Christmas. She came last year. But Cindy just visited Teri a couple of weeks ago which made me very happy. I hope everyone has a good Thanksgiving, and I hope I get my small breast . . . turkey.

A Scenic Autumn Ride

The other day, my friend, Diane, and I went for a ride. This October has had beautiful weather - warm, blue skies and no rain. It's unusual for this time of year, but surely makes for gorgeous sights along the way with all the trees with their red and yellow leaves. Diane drove as I don't want to drive if I have anything to drink, and we always stop for lunch and a glass of wine. I'm not walking well anymore and I can just see law enforcement stopping me for some silly thing if I'm driving. If I had to get out of the car and try to walk that straight line that is impossible to do even when sober and I couldn't, and then if they asked me if I'd been drinking . . . well, I just don't want to put up with that. And what if they had a dash cam on the police car and then put it on Youtube because my trying to walk that damn straight line was so hysterical! How embarrassing!!

Diane has been out that way before and took a road off the main road that led to a ferry across the river. On the way, we passed a church with a beautiful green lawn and trees. And on the lawn were three deer - a fawn and two little ones. Wait a minute! I have to edit this and correct my description of the deer. They were a doe, just like "Sound of Music," and two fawns. Sorry for my goof. But moving right along, my guess is that the Pope had given the church a special dispensation allowing deer on their lawn. It was so exciting to see them and they seemed not to mind us slowing way down. Maybe they were excited to see us! We moved slowly and I took three pictures out the window. They never seemed scared of us and never moved away. So when we came back, we looked for them, but they were gone. I'll just bet they were inside the church taking part in a Bible study class. Maybe on our next trip we'll see them again if we get there about the same time - before Bible study class.

We then went on our way, had a good lunch and wine and then home. On our way, we stopped at a dog park where dogs are allowed to run free. It's so much fun watching them run and play with each other. I think they meet there at the same time every day and that way they can exercise and catch up on dog gossip. Their gossip probably sounds like this: "Did you hear Trixie was caught messing around with Rex?" whereas our gossip sounds like this:  "I heard Mona was sleeping with George, her mailman." I guess we all gossip about the same things that we find interesting.
